On human gospels…

There is increasing pressure on churches to “modernize” or to change their positions on key social issues so that they are more appealing to newer generations and more “inclusive” of those who not long ago were considered, almost universally, to be practicing immoral behavior.

I feel like I remember not long ago (to me at least) trying to imagine what was so controversial about the doctrine of Christ. Even those who didn’t want to “follow” didn’t necessarily argue that the moral assertions were good, and many even embraced their lifestyles as making them a “sinner” without much animosity toward those who followed a Christian life.

That seemed to be the situation when I was a full time proselyting minister. It seemed to me that most people understood that I was trying to persuade them to follow God, and there wasn’t much pushback in the way of trying to pursuance either me, or my church, to change our position on sins.

Now it seems to be more weighted the other direction. The world doesn’t accept any real definition of right or wrong. Most everything is accepted as right, with the exception of believing that something is wrong. We live in a time that many, even within the church would rather have the prophets and apostles “persuade God” in order to please their own selves.

If you find your beliefs, wishes, or ideologies at odds with the gospel, repent and ask the Lord to teach you.

Galatians 1:9–10

9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.
